I have a lot of growing up to do. I realized that the other day inside my fort. – Zach Galifianakis
growing up is a subject i’ve given a lot of thought to recently. in 5 and a half short months, my life will take on a whole new meaning and with that comes a slew of new responsibilities. i will be responsible for another human life, one which will be entirely dependent on me for nourishment, comfort, warmth, and safety. is this growing up?
You are young only once, but you can be immature forever. – my dad
i think there is a very distinct difference between taking on and fulfilling responsibilities and “growing up”. i have a husband, a dog, a tiny baby on the way, bills, payments, etc. do i feel like an adult? HECK NO. do i still play video games, eat pizza in bed, goof off, and watch cartoons? HECK YES. this concept of “growing up”, whatever that actually means, is for the birds. one can be responsible and have fun. care for your child, nurture them, watch them grow, and, when they’re old enough, build forts with them. get down on the ground! play! explore! finger paint! i think it is important to maintain a sense of wonder, for your sake and your child’s.
i’m not really sure where i’m going with this or if it makes any sense. it’s just something that’s been on my mind a lot. if i figure out a way to better articulate these thoughts, i will edit this post. if i don’t come back to this, it’s because i stopped dwelling on it and built a fort instead.
